Dr Claudine Hamel-Desnos is vascular physician. She is the President of the French Society of Phlebology and member of the French University College of Vascular Medicine. She is also a member of the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee of Phlebology and of the Bureau of the European Board of Phlebology for the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS)
She is qualified in vascular medicine since 1987. She exerted both in a private practice and at the University Hospital of Caen Normandy, western France for 10 years. She then practiced at the Saint Martin Private Hospital in Caen, in the Dpt of vascular medicine and surgery, where she still works today, and her main field of interest is Phlebology.
From the very beginning she paid a special attention to ultrasound guided sclerotherapy for treating varicose veins. She initiated the first randomized controlled study comparing the results of liquid and foam sclerotherapy in the treatment of the great saphenous veins; this study was published in Dermatologic Surgery in 2003.
Presently she has published many original articles both in French and English and chapters in books, in the field of endovenous treatments, mainly of foam sclerotherapy, but also of thermal ablation.
Where do you see the industry in the next 10 years?
Industry will probably continue to focus on superficial and deep endovenous treatments. In fact, improvement are still expected in the field of non thermal ablation for varicose veins and in interventional deep vein treatments.
Why are you excited about participating in UIP2018?
Because Kurosh Parsi is clever, dynamic and inventive, I’m sure this congress will be particularly successful and interesting.
